A STORY:
The phone rings, you are on the line and are curious about airbrushing. You explain that you yourself have tried mystic tan or you've heard horror stories from friends about the results. You came out orange or some funky color and everyone knew you have tried a fake tan. You got blotchy spots on your legs or arms, or the solution ran and there was no hope to hide the streaks. You may have even ended up like Ross on friends and forgot to turn or turned the wrong way when the machine quietly beeped. For all these reasons you ask me "Will I turn orange?" Your tone is pure fear and I know that I cannot truly calm these fear until you have gotten your first session. I calmly answer "No, I promise you will not turn orange. We use Cal Tan solution, the same stuff they use on Dancing with the Stars. I can mix the solution to match your skin type so the color looks natural." This calms your fears for the time being but you are still apprehensive so some more questions are in order (I am going to assume you are a very curious individual):
You: "Does a person spray me or a machine?"
Me: "I will personally be airbrushing you with an air gun that lets me control air pressure, color, direction of spray, and amount of solution that will be applied."
You: "You apply it yourself? What should I wear?"
Me: If you are a female I answer: "You can wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing. Some people wear a full baiting suit and some people like to get sprayed completely nude. I prefer to get sprayed wearing a thong so I have a tan line and I can see how dark I really got. Also, whatever you wear make sure it won't give you tan lines that interfere with your outfit."
If you are guy I answer: "you can wear whatever you feel most comfortable, but I do need you to wear at least a speedo."
You: "Do I have to do anything before I come for my appointment."
Me: "You should shower, shave, and exfoliate your skin before you arrive."
You: "How about moisturizing?"
Me: "You should only put lotion on if it is going to be at least 2 hours before your session, and I would stay away from anything with oil in it, because it can repel to solution we use."
You: "What should I use to exfoliate."
Me: "I would use something that doesn't have any oil in it. We carry 2 different kinds of exfoliators if you need to pick one up before your session."
You: "How long do I have to wait to shower?"
Me: "You should wait at least 8 to 12 hours to shower. Usually people like to make their appointment in the afternoon so they can sleep with it on."
You: "What if it rubs off on my sheets?"
Me: "There is a good chance that there will be some transfer onto your clothes after your session. (Or your sheets) The good news is the solution is sugar based and warm water will take out any transfer from most fabrics, I would be careful with silk and other fine fabrics though. This is also why I was going to suggest you bring loose dark clothing to wear home. You will feel sticky for a while after and loose clothing helps."
You: "Ok, so when should I make my appointment for?"
Me: "Usually the color looks the best for the 3 days right after your session, but your color will last 5-9 days, sometimes longer depending on your skin type and how well you take care of it."
You: "What do I have to do to take care of it?"
Me: "Keep your skin well moisturized. After your initial shower, it will act like a regular tan and fade naturally. Since the solution sits on the top layer of skin, to better moisturized you are the longer it will last and more evenly it will fade."
